Christmas weekend in Vienna

Christmas weekend in Vienna

ell, it was a one long year, fully packed with good and not-so-good events. If I’d have to describe it in just one phrase, then I’d say that was “A DECISION MAKING” kind of year.  So, to end it in positive, we decided to go for a couple of days, right before Christmas, to Vienna. No, this time not as tourists, but to get some family gether and get thoughts ready for an upcoming year.

We were staying at Hilton Vienna Danube Waterfront and it didn’t leave us disappointed because the hotel offers SPA floor, a cozy bar, room service and luxurious river view – basically, all you need for the perfect getaway.

After Check-in, we went to PIER 269 bar to have a couple of drinks before going to the city. Bar welcomed us with a stylish interior, Christmas magical music, outstanding river view and cozy fireplace. Here, with a glass of Chardonnay, you can get all the peace you need. So, our journey had started.

After, we called Uber driver heading Habsburgergasse. Since wine did its job well, driving wasn’t an option anymore. No regrets, at least there were no parking issues at the city center. Btw, Uber in Vienna works twice as better as in Prague. Drivers were always really nice to us, sharing a conversation and giving tips on how to enjoy the city the best.

Since it was 22 of December, two days before Christmas, streets were full of people looking for presents, buying Christmas trees, and enjoying an atmosphere of upcoming Merry and Bright. With the smell of hot wine and street bakeries.

Of course, we had to visit Chanel, where I picked my Christmas present. But I have to say, don’t expect much from Chanel boutique in Vienna. It’s nothing like the original store on 31, Rue Cambon.

The city has one of the most beautiful Christmas decorations. Outstanding.

The old and famous Viener Christmasmarkt at Rathauspark. It was a day before Christmas and there was no crowd! I mean, in Prague since the day one when Christmas street markets open and until the end, there are sooo many people. You have to stay in line to take a picture of Christmas tree. Every time you go there to catch some magical holiday atmosphere, you just leave it with the same feeling of frustration as always. Yes, it’s beautiful there and you do want to have a pic for your Instagram. But be prepared to hold your purse and wait long lines. But in Vienna, there were twice as many goods as in Prague and you can actually walk and see everything!

For the first time in my life, I got to taste a Caramel apple! Loved it!

Cheers for a successful 2018!
